7 Effective Strategies To Get Your Music Noticed

Monday, December 21st, 2009

I came across this site and thought it would be good to share.  As an independent artist there are a lot of smart and effective ways to get people to take notice you and your music.   One of the things I want to do for artist(you) is to educate you on your options.

All seven strategies are GREAT but I want to highlight the one that stuck out to me is step #4.  The music industry is forever changing and the way an artist would generate income isn’t and won’t be the same.  It is smart to think of other ways to generate income, after all I want you to be in this for the long haul.  What are your other gifts and talents?  Are you maximizing them?  Let’s think outside the box, wait, scratch that, don’t start with the BOX. How about that?

4. The Multi-Tasking Strategy

The musicians that have the most success don’t just rely on one project for their income. Most of them work on many things beyond playing live, selling albums, and selling merchandise.

For instance:
- Jonathan Coulton participates in the Popular Science magazine podcast at popsci.com and licenses his music.
- Brad Turcotte of Brad Sucks maintains multiple Web sites including stripcreator.com and also licenses his music.
- Grant Baciocco of Throwing Toasters writes and produces the multiple-award-winning podcast “The Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd,” does voice-over and acting work, and produces a podcast for the Jim Henson Company, among other projects.
- George Hrab is a drummer in a popular cover band that plays at weddings and corporate events, writes and produces his Geologic Podcast, and has written a book.
- The members of Beatnik Turtle have day jobs, run IndieGuide.com, and write books like The Indie Band Survival Guide and articles like this one.

Not only do musicians like these have a lot of projects going on, they use the projects to promote the others.

Soundwaves penetrate ego and flesh
To reach the heart
Rouse the spirit
And illuminate the mind
It literallly moves you
You couldn’t stop if you tried
If you can
Then I’d check my pulse if I were you
The rhythm lives inside you
It beats within you
The heartbeat was the first song
Then the drum came along
Outer life imitating inner life
And the beat goes on…

Do Not Copy, Copying Puts God to Sleep!

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Haylo  and Welcome!

I want to be the first to welcome you to The Akire Group blog.  I am extremely excited about this journey and I am excited you are taking time to check us out.

“As a creative artist each one is made in the image of God therefore DO NOT COPY, COPYING PUTS GOD TO SLEEP”-Elimo Njau

I love this quote!!!  This quote is one of the inspirations behind The Akire Group.  Last summer I went to Nairobi, Kenya on a mission to to rebuild the Paa Ya Paa Art Center.  Before entering the art center I saw this quote and instantly took a picture of it.

This quote isn’t limited to just “artist” it is for everyone.  It is the charge we are ALL given, to live as an original and just BE!   I was going to type “strive” but I was reminded that we don’t have to “strive” all we have to do is BE.  Let’s just BE who we were created to BE!

This blog will express the thoughts of The Akire Group team and myself.  Ok, let me first warn you, we are bunch of random, imaginative, reflective and creative souls.

I hope you enjoy the blog!

Peace,
Erika
